Power cuts this weekend to affect Algarve and Greater Lisbon

E-REDES carries out routine power cuts every Sunday

Parts of the Algarve and Greater Lisbon will face temporary power cuts this Sunday, January 11, due to scheduled maintenance work on the electricity grid, E-REDES has confirmed.

The electricity distributor says the interruptions will be limited in time and location, with specific areas already identified, and are being carried out to strengthen the network and improve service reliability.

Algarve: where and when

In the Algarve, power cuts are planned in two locations:

  • Quarteira (Loulé) – Electricity will be cut between 7am and 11am, affecting the Volta do Esquilo area, in the parish of Quarteira.
  • Tavira – The outage is scheduled for the same period, 7am-11am, in the Nora Velha Urbanisation, in the parish of Tavira.

Greater Lisbon: areas affected

Several locations in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area will also be affected on Sunday:

  • São Domingos de Rana – Power will be interrupted between 5am and 11am in Rua de Pompeu, Rua Júlio César and Rua Tito Flávio.
  • Moscavide and Portela – Electricity will be cut from 6am to 11am, affecting Avenida dos Descobrimentos, Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral, and nearby public service and garden areas.

Why the power is being cut

E-REDES says the works are part of routine maintenance and safety upgrades required under electricity sector regulations. Sundays are chosen to minimise disruption to residents and businesses, and customers in affected areas are notified in advance.

The company stresses that the cuts are necessary to ensure the safety of technical teams and improve the long-term reliability of the power network. Consumers are advised to plan ahead and to treat electrical installations as live at all times, even if power appears to be restored earlier than expected.

More detailed information is available through E-REDES’ official channels.
