PM condemns incident
A PSP officer at the AIMA offices in Martim Moniz, Lisbon, yesterday was ‘attacked’ by a foreigner carrying a Stanley-knife.
The apparent alleged stabbing was foiled, however, and the foreigner disarmed and arrested.
Reports say it is unclear what the motive may have been, albeit the incident follows the government’s announcement that it is notifying thousands of immigrants that their applications for residency will not be approved, and they have 20 days to leave the country.
Writing over social media yesterday, prime minister Luís Montenegro condemned the attack, which took place in the afternoon, stressing: “The authority and security of our police can not be called into question”.
In a statement, the PSP stressed their agent “did not suffer any injuries”. ND
