The Samsung Galaxy S3 phone has, for the first time, outsold Apple’s iPhone 4S in the third quarter or 2012.
Research released by the Strategy Analytics firm reveals that Samsung sold 18 million models in the first nine months of this year, compares with Apple’s 16.2 million sales.
Neil Mawston of Strategy Analytics said: “The Galaxy S3 has proven wildly popular with consumers and operators.”
It is suggested, however, that Apple’s iPhone 5 will reclaim the top sales position shortly.
Launched during the third quarter, sales of the Apple iPhone 5 have already got off to a solid start and “we expect the new iPhone 5 to out-ship Samsung’s Galaxy S3 in the coming fourth quarter”, said Neil Mawston.
“Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world’s most popular smartphone model,” he added.
