São Brás de Alportel has begun upgrading the EM 523 municipal road, on the section between the EN 270 national road and Vale de Carvalho, near the border with the municipality of Faro.
The project, awarded to the company José de Sousa Barra & Filhos, Lda., represents a €624,000 investment aimed at improving traffic conditions and road safety.

The works are scheduled to last 120 days, with completion expected in May.
During this period, traffic on the EM 523 will be subject to restrictions, with possible temporary disruptions to circulation and local access as the works progress, the local council says. The intervention will be carried out in phases to “minimise the impact on residents and road users.”
According to the municipality, the project is part of broader efforts to improve local infrastructure and support territorial development and is included in its Mobility Promotion Strategy and the Municipal Roads Maintenance and Conservation Plan.
