Ogier continues to add new feats to his list of accomplishments
French rally legend Sébastien Ogier added another chapter to his storied career last weekend by claiming his seventh victory at the Rally de Portugal, setting a new record for the most wins in the iconic event’s history.
Ogier mastered the demanding Portuguese terrain, finishing the 24-stage event with a time of 3:48:35.9, edging out Estonia’s Ott Tänak by just 8.7 seconds. Finland’s Kalle Rovanperä completed the podium, 12.2 seconds behind the leader in a tightly contested race.

The win marks the 63rd career victory for Ogier in the World Rally Championship (WRC), reinforcing his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats. It also boosts him to third place in the 2025 WRC standings, with 96 points. Rovanperä now holds second overall with 118 points, trailing current championship leader Elfyn Evans, who sits on 118 points.
Ogier is 41 years old and holds several WRC records, such as the most drivers’ championship points overall, biggest points gap with the championship runner-up, most stage victories and points in a single season. Still, he continues to add accomplishments to his resumé.
“I think it’s something I can be really proud of, staying competitive after all these years. The car was great all weekend. We showed once again that race management is definitely a craft we have. I’m happy… winning seven times in Portugal is not bad at all,” he said.
The Rally de Portugal is held across the central and northern regions of the country, having attracted around one million spectators over the weekend – especially impressive considering it took place on the same weekend as the final and decisive matchday of the Portuguese football league and Portugal’s legislative elections.

The rally had previously been held in the Algarve, but low spectator numbers and complaints that the stages were not exciting enough saw rally officials moving north.
