Police confiscate loaded 12-gauge shotgun
Six people were injured yesterday, including a 15-year-old girl, following a disturbance in the municipality of Amadora (Greater Lisbon), involving around 40 people.
None of the injuries appear to have been life threatening: only two people, the girl and a 40-year-old woman, received hospital treatment.
One man, also in his 40s, was arrested, still in possession of a 12-gauge loaded shotgun “with overlapping barrels” which was promptly removed from him.
Talking to Lusa, deputy superintendent of the PSP (public security police) Sérgio Soares said: “We believe that at least this shotgun, that was seized, was involved in these disturbances. The facts have since been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and it will be determined whether there were more weapons involved.”
Exactly what caused this disturbance has not been explained, beyond the fact that it involved “around 40 people”
It took place in the middle of the afternoon, in the Casal do Silva neighbourhood and left the 15-year-old girl with injuries to her head, back, legs and right arm. The 40-year-old woman suffered bruising to her neck.
Superintendent Soares stressed that the atmosphere in the neighbourhood “remained calm after the police intervention”.
