Spanish company to invest €100 million in Chaves factory

New aluminium plant expected to create up to 450 jobs by 2027

A Spanish manufacturing company is set to invest €100 million in a new factory in northern Portugal, bringing hundreds of jobs to the region.

The project will be led by Cortizo, which plans to build a large industrial unit in the municipality of Chaves. Local officials say it will be one of the biggest business investments ever made in the area.

The factory will be located in the Chaves Business Park, covering around 30 hectares. The planned industrial complex will have about 80,000 square metres and will focus on aluminium processing.

According to the council, the plant is expected to begin operating by the end of 2027 and could create between 400 and 450 direct jobs, providing a major boost to the local economy.

The municipality said the project is the result of cooperation between the council and Cortizo, a process that began in 2020 and helped bring together the conditions needed to move forward.

The investment has been classified as a Project of National Interest (PIN), meaning it will benefit from special incentives and support measures.

Officials say the new facility will be the company’s “most modern”, using advanced technology and automated systems. It will handle the full aluminium production cycle, from extrusion to final finishes.

Beyond job creation, the project is expected to strengthen the regional economy, attract new businesses and increase the appeal of the Alto Tâmega area for investment, the council points out.

Founded more than 50 years ago in Galicia, Cortizo produces aluminium and PVC systems for architecture and industry and operates across several European countries.
