After a cloudy and in some areas rainy Friday, the weekend is set to bring a welcome return to sunshine across most of the country, according to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA).
Saturday will see a significant improvement, with skies forecast to be mostly clear nationwide. Winds will blow light to moderate from the north, though they may be strong at times along the western coast and in highland areas, with gusts reaching up to 65 km/h. Morning fog is possible in parts of the North and Centre, IPMA forecasts.
Despite the sunshine, temperatures will remain on the cool side. Nights are expected to be particularly cold, with a marked drop in minimum temperatures, while daytime highs will remain moderate for the time of year. The warmest weather is expected in the Algarve, where temperatures may reach upward of 20ºC.
Sunday is expected to continue the bright spell, with mostly clear skies and only a gradual increase in cloud cover from the afternoon. Winds will generally be light to moderate from the east, occasionally stronger in higher areas during the morning.
While maximum temperatures are forecast to rise slightly on Sunday, evenings will remain chilly, rounding off a weekend of sunny days and cold nights.
