Direct flights between Portugal (Lisbon) and Venezuela (Caracas) returned at midday today, after a four-month hiatus following the military take-over of the country by the United States.
SIC was at Lisbon airport to listen to some of the stories of people who travelled to Portugal for a holiday/short stay, and have had to remain ‘in limbo’ here since last November. Adreína Fernandes was dropping her grandmother off, finally, who originally arrived for her daughter’s birthday, and had been due to go back to Venezuela on November 25.
As SIC explains, “the months of waiting made her return home a day of great emotion”.
Slowly, all major international airlines have been picking up their Venezuelan routes as the United States’ ‘control’ of the country appears to be moving along relatively calmly.
