TAP to run Faro-Funchal flights all year round

Airline adds third weekly flight after strong demand and keeps route through winter

Portugal’s flagship airline TAP will resume flights between Faro in the Algarve and Funchal in the Madeira archipelago this summer, and for the first time, operate the route year-round.

The airline will offer three weekly flights, maintaining the service through the winter season and making the route permanent.

“We are resuming the Faro–Funchal route this summer. Since it went well last year, we decided to add a third flight and also invest in winter, so this route becomes a year-round service,” said TAP’s Chief Operating Officer, Mário Chaves, speaking on the sidelines of the Better Tourism Lisbon Travel Market (BTL) in Lisbon.

According to Chaves, the decision is “very important” for the airline, and “for Madeira and the mainland.”

Madeira’s regional government has already welcomed the news, with president Miguel Albuquerque calling it a “good strategy”.

Albuquerque also noted that the route had previously been operated by Portugália, which “always achieved great results.” He added that TAP has been “a very long-standing strategic partner of Madeira,” highlighting the airline’s role in developing tourism and improving the region’s accessibility.
