British rock legends The Cure have been announced as the first confirmed headliner of the 2026 edition of the North Festival, which returns next year with a new venue and a refreshed concept.
Following an unexpected break in 2025, the festival will move to the Complexo Desportivo Central da Maia, a new site in the northern town of Maia, chosen for its larger capacity, greater comfort, and improved accessibility, organisers said on Monday.
Led by frontman Robert Smith, The Cure will headline the final night of the event on June 7, performing some of their biggest hits for what promises to be one of the festival’s standout editions yet. The 2026 North Festival will run from June 5 to 7.
Alongside its new location, the festival is expanding its scope with multiple themed stages and a more diverse lineup. Among the new additions is the “JN Rock à Moda do Porto” stage, dedicated entirely to Portuguese music, with special emphasis on artists from northern Portugal. The Sunset Stage will set the tone ahead of the headliners and keep the party going late into the night with sets from well-known international DJs.
Tickets for the 2026 edition are not yet on sale but will soon be available through the festival’s official website. The full lineup is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
