An extraordinary natural phenomenon – a tornado of ash – has been filmed in Unhais da Serra, in the municipality of Covilhã, by firefighters involved in dampening down operations.
The fire that raged in Unhais da Serra for several days was part of ‘Arganil fire’, finally deemed in resolution after 11 days of combat.
According to Rádio Cova da Beira the extraordinary clip was filmed by firefighters from Odemira who were in Covilhã as part of the teams brought in from all over the country to help firefighting in the north and centre.
According to the station, this is a natural phenomenon “that is not very common in this region”, which perennially suffers wildfires, but not perhaps to the intensity of the outbreaks this year.
