Eight regions of mainland Portugal are under yellow weather warnings since this Friday afternoon, as the country faces heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.
According to the national meteorological institute (IPMA), the districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Leiria are facing warnings for strong south and south-easterly winds, with gusts that could reach 110 km/h in higher ground.
Meanwhile, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro are under yellow alert for periods of heavy rainfall, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms, from Friday afternoon through to early Saturday morning.
These regions are also affected by strong south and south-westerly winds, with gusts of up to 75 km/h, increasing to 80 km/h and as high as 110 km/h in mountainous areas of the Faro district.
In the Algarve, the district of Faro is additionally under a yellow warning for rough seas, with waves of up to four metres expected along the south coast between Friday night and Saturday morning.
A yellow warning, the least severe level, signals potential disruption due to adverse weather conditions, with a low to moderate risk of damage.
