Woman, 96, dies in ambulance crash near Faro

Three other people were hurt, two of them seriously

A tragic accident this morning claimed the life of a 96-year-old woman and left three others injured, two of them seriously, in a collision between an ambulance and a car on the EN2 in Faro near the Conceição de Faro junction.

The incident occurred at 9.17am as the ambulance, operated by the Tavira Municipal Firefighters, was transporting the elderly patient to Faro Hospital. According to reports in the national press, the accident happened when the car attempted a left-turn manoeuvre, resulting in the collision.

The two seriously injured are a firefighter riding in the ambulance and the driver of the car, while the ambulance driver sustained minor injuries.

GNR police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
