Local charity Castelo de Sonhos (CdeS) was overwhelmed by the generous response to the 21st Annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal for the elderly and forgotten folk in the Silves area and beyond.
Donated gifts and food boxes poured into the CdeS support shop and drop-off points – some 280 in all. These were either collected by the elderly from the CdeS family support shop or distributed by volunteers to rural areas. They brought much sunshine into many lives.
CdeS wishes to thank everyone who contributed to the 2025 Christmas campaign, with special thanks going to:
- The Food Company of Guia for donating food plus 75 boxes of wonderful toys for disadvantaged and children at risk.
- Kathleen Kuys & Friends in the Boliquieme and São Brás areas
- NEED – A Charity For All
- Nada Offner and The Moonlighters from Portimão
- The Algarveans Crochet & Knitting Group of Armação de Pêra
- The Silves Rotary Club
- The Algarveans Theatre Group
- The German Language Lutheran Church of Carvoeiro
- The Friday Night Group from Vale Fuzeiros.
Thanks also go to The Waterdog Pub in Armação de Pêra and The Food Company of Guia for allowing their premises to be used as drop-off points.
Once again, due to the large number of shoeboxes donated, CdeS volunteers were able to distribute not only to the elderly poor within the Silves area but also to Portuguese care homes caring for elderly with no family and the Portimão Hospital.
To all CdeS supporters and volunteers, a very happy and peaceful New Year
