Algarve towns celebrate World Tourism Day

The Algarve will be celebrating World Tourism Day on Friday, September 27 with a variety of events – mostly guided tours.

Several towns will be hosting their own entertainment programmes, with Portimão set to host a job fair at the municipal market between 9am and noon.

Faro will be hosting a guided walk along the town’s streets for residents to ‘become tourists for a day’ and another to explore the town’s Ermida de Santo António do Alto.

Loulé will organise a guided tour of its recently renovated Gama Lobo palace at 6pm, while Albufeira has a wealth of activities planned, from guided tours of the historic centre to the opening of the first Living Statues Festival at 5.30pm.

The Algarve tourism board (RTA) will also be at Faro Airport from 5pm onwards welcoming arriving and departing holidaymakers with a live performance by several orchestras and choir groups.

World Tourism Day aims to “foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values”.
