afpop members take trip to Spain

A trip to Seville and Granada in Spain was recently enjoyed by nearly 100 afpop members in the Algarve, thanks to organisers Linda Cree and Pat Allen.

On September 23, under the command of Pat and Linda, a coach picked up members across the Algarve and set off for Spain.

The group disembarked in Seville for the first tour of the trip followed by lunch, and then set off to the hotel in Granada still allowing members to enjoy some free time in the evening.

Weather conditions were “brilliant” for sightseeing around Granada and members, split into two groups, were allocated tour guides who showed them around the city.

In the afternoon there was free time to enjoy some retail therapy, as well as delight in tapas and Spanish wine in local bars.

A flamenco show and dinner had been organised in a restaurant in the old part of Granada and this was one of the highlights of the trip.

The next morning the group drove to Alhambra for a morning’s tour – “a truly magical experience admiring breathtaking architecture steeped in history”.

On the journey back to the Algarve, the group made a detour via Jerez where they had lunch in a local restaurant and then watched an equestrian horse show featuring the famous “dancing horses”.

For 2014, afpop event organisers Linda and Pat are planning another venture, possibly a trip to Aveiro, Portugal’s ‘Little Venice’.
