Algarve platform joins Global Movement for Palestine

‘Algarve for Palestine’ is holding a silent protest/march this Saturday in Faro calling for the end of starvation and genocide in Gaza.

The ‘Algarve for Palestine’ platform is joining the Global Movement for Palestine on Saturday, August 9, with a protest/march calling for the end of starvation and genocide in Gaza.

There will be a “silent demonstration against hunger and genocide in Gaza” at 8.45pm in front of CCDR (Praça da Liberdade), in Faro, followed by a lecture with historian Márcio Santos, at 9.30pm, at Fábrica da Cerveja (partnership with Sociedade Recreativa e Artística Farense).

“From Barcelona to New York, from Bogotá to Faro, the people with a conscience are rising to demand an end to Israel’s genocide and the illegal siege on Gaza,” says ‘Algarve for Palestine’ in a press statement.

“Before the continued inaction of the European governments – particularly the Portuguese one, that postpones actions to September, ignoring the current emergency – towards the genocide and forced hunger perpetrated by Israel in Gaza, and the despair caused by the images of atrocities being committed daily against the Palestinian people, the civic and nonpartisan platform Algarve pela Palestina (Algarve for Palestine) calls, once again, for all citizens to rally, in a silent march in solidarity with Palestine.

“Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians (the number of inhabitants in Faro municipality); i.e., one dead in every 35 people over 22 months; 859 of them were killed between late May and August 2025 while trying to reach the food distribution points from the North American Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the sole NGO that Israel allows to distribute humanitarian aid in the territory, drip-fed and in minimal amounts.”

“The injured toll from Israeli attacks has surpassed 150,000 people, according to official figures, with estimates of real numbers being far beyond this. The UN estimates that more than 50,000 children have been dead or wounded in Gaza by Israeli fire.

“Together we demand that our governments abide the international law and use all the diplomatic and legal tools to end the genocide and occupation of Gaza.”
