Benfica and Sporting will face off on July 31 at 8.45pm
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has officially confirmed the Algarve Stadium as the official venue for the 2025 Portuguese Supercup, contested by the winners of Portugal’s top-tier league and cup competitions.
Sporting qualified for the Supercup after winning the league and cup, leaving the remaining spot to the cup runners-up, Benfica.
The match will take place on Thursday, July 31 at 8.45pm. No information on ticket sales has been revealed so far.
Last month, the possibility of hosting the Portuguese Supercup was welcomed by Albertino Galvão, president of the Algarve Football Association, told Renascença radio.
“It’s the beginning of August, many Portuguese are on holiday here, and it would be excellent,” he said at the time.
The Supertaça has been held at Estádio Municipal de Aveiro since 2020. The last time it was played elsewhere was in the Algarve in the 2019/20 season, at the time also a clash between Benfica and Sporting which ended in a historic 5-0 win for Benfica.
“It’s a beautiful stadium, with solid infrastructure and good access, everything needed for a major match like Sporting vs Benfica,” Galvão said last month. “Yes, we’re prepared.”
