Algarve to host 70 German-speaking tourism leaders

Three-day event will examine opportunities and challenges for region in one of its key visitor markets

Around 70 tourism industry decision-makers from German-speaking markets will gather in the Algarve from May 27 to 29 for an international workshop focused on the region’s position in one of its most important tourism markets.

The event, organised by the editorial group FVW Medien with the support of the Algarve’s tourism authorities, will take place at the EPIC Sana Algarve hotel.

Participants will include tour operators, airlines, travel agents and tourism experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, alongside representatives from Algarve tourism organisations and businesses.

On May 27 and 28, attendees will take part in ‘fam trips’ (familiarisation visits) across the region, giving them the opportunity to explore different tourism experiences available in the Algarve.

The final day, May 29, will focus on a strategic debate about the Algarve’s positioning in the German market, as well as trends in demand and the challenges and growth opportunities for the destination in the coming years. Following the debate, a professional workshop will allow international tourism leaders to meet directly with regional businesses.

The Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) has invited its members to register for the session, which aims to encourage networking and partnerships between international operators and local companies.

According to Algarve tourism chief André Gomes, bringing the event to the region is part of a strategy to strengthen ties with key tourism decision-makers in German-speaking countries.

“This workshop will be a strategic opportunity to strengthen dialogue with the German market and to work together with tour operators and travel agents on new approaches to promoting the Algarve among these visitors,” he said.

“By bringing this meeting to the region, we are also giving our local partners the chance to establish direct contacts with those who influence tourism flows to the destination,” Gomes added.

Germany remains one of the Algarve’s most important tourism markets. In 2025, the number of German visitors increased by 2.3% compared with the previous year, while overnight stays rose by 1.4%.

ATA adds that its strategy for the market focuses on promoting the region year-round, highlighting the often-overlooked interior of the Algarve and developing tourism segments that can help reduce seasonality, including active tourism, nature tourism, golf and major sporting events.

The workshop is also expected to receive extensive media coverage in German-speaking markets through several channels of the FVW Medien group, including the industry publication fvw | TravelTalk and the digital platform fvw.de.
