The British Legion Portugal Branch (Algarve Group) remembered the fallen during a service at St Luke’s Church, Monte da Palhagueira, on Remembrance Sunday.
Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Portugal Jill Gallard, who was joined by nearly 200 members of the foreign community, laid a wreath at St Luke’s Church.
Together they remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of all in past and current conflicts.
Also laying wreaths were Major Alan Brown MBE ((Territorial Army, retired) and Mrs. Connie Hoskins (ex WRNS).

Following the silence and wreath laying ceremony at the cross of remembrance, the RBL Algarve Chaplain Reverend Bob Bates conducted a service of remembrance where the collection raised €950, which was donated to the RBL Poppy Appeal by Fr. Bob.
In lighter mood, following the Service in the Church, a lunch was held at the Le Marquis restaurant.
Remembrances Services were also held at Nossa Senhora de Luz in Praia da Luz and in the evening at Nossa Senhora do Livramento at Tavira. The whole Algarve from West to East united in a day of Remembrance.
Honoured
Meanwhile, an Algarve couple was honoured by the Royal British Legion Portugal Branch. Eddy and Maria de Bie were presented with a Branch Certificate by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Portugal Jill Gallard who is also the President of the Portugal Branch of the Royal British Legion.
Eddie and Maria have been ever-present supporters, organisers and fund raisers for the RBL over many years. Eddy is also the Branch Standard bearer and a RBL qualified Parade Marshal.
