On Sunday, November 16 and Monday, November 17, there will be opportunities to see the very first Variety Show, hosted by the Algarve charity APAA.
APAA (Association for the Protection of Animals in the Algarve) is a long-established charity dedicated to the care and protection of animalsacross the region.
The show promises to be a showcase of local talent, i.e., singers, dancers and comedy actors who are performing a diverse selection of show tunes, dances and comedy sketches. The curtains are raised on both nights at 7.30pm and doors open at 6.30pm.
The show’s director, Paul Jokinen-Carter, writes: “A lot of fun has been had behind the scenes, rehearsing some of the comedy sketches, choosing the visuals and soundtracks that support each performance, and watching each participant bring their own individual creativity and energy to this multifaceted show.”
Paul adds, “and personally I’m very excited to present two comedy items, e.g. we are presenting an abridged version of a Victoria Wood comedy, and an adapted-for-the-stage radio sketch, with ‘live’ sound effects. Another comedy highlight will be a gang of performing pirates, who I’m sure are going to steal the show.”
The venue is the Auditório do Museu de Portimão – part of the Sardine Factory Museum. All proceeds from the evening will go directly to APAA, helping care for animals in the Algarve.
Tickets are available now but are selling out fast. The price is €15. Donations are welcomed from those who can’t attend but still wish to support the cause.
