Brazilian billionaire behind €100 million luxury development in Cascais

UK architect Norman Foster to design project, his first in Portugal

Brazilian billionaire Carlos Sicupira is leading a group of investors planning to invest €100 million in a luxury real estate venture in Cascais, Público reported last week.

The luxury residential and commercial  project, which is to be called ATÓLL, is to replace Cascais Villa Shopping, a set of buildings that are to be demolished to make way for the new project in Cascais.

ATÓLL will have two luxury residential buildings, with an area for commerce, writes Público. These buildings will be designed by UK architect Norman Foster, his first project in Portugal, who will have the support of the Portuguese studio Fragmentos.

The vice-president of the Cascais Town Hall, Nuno Piteira Lopes, told Público that the demolition of the shopping centre, which will later give way to Atóll, will be done in a “sustainable” way, taking advantage of the “materials to build the new building”.
