The Autumn Mediterranean Garden Fair, held annually in the Algarve, is a unique event that aims to celebrate the start of the gardening year; it is dedicated to making beautiful and sustainable Mediterranean gardens with minimum water use.
This year, the event will be held on October 18 and 19 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Municipal Park (FATACIL Showground) in Lagoa with its excellent facilities for visitors and exhibitors.
Our partner for this event is the Câmara Municipal de Lagoa and the organisation would like to thank its President, Luís Encarnação, and his team for their support. We look forward to working with them again to develop this special event in the gardening calendar.
There will be various displays, and available for sale a very distinct selection of plants suitable for Algarve gardens, including specialist sales of salvia, succulents and drought- resistant plants (for more information, email mgapfairs@gmail.com)
Native plants and seeds from specialised suppliers will be on sale, as well as ornamental and aromatic plants. The fair will have sales and advice on fruit and garden trees, and a wonderful range of succulents for both the garden and containers.
This is an opportunity to buy the most suitable plants for your garden and benefit from the advice and guidance of experienced nursery owners, growers, speakers and MGAP members. Once again, FELCO sales stand will offer free attention for their tools.
A rich programme of free talks, workshops and demonstrations is in preparation. The keynote presentation on Saturday, October 18, is on “How to get rid of your lawn”.

As usual, there will be free advice on how to create and maintain your garden sustainably into the future with the theme of ‘Starting the Mediterranean Gardening Year’.
As usual, it will be possible to pre-order plants from growers for collection during the event. At the MGAP Bulb Sales stand, there will be a selection of bulbs suitable for Algarve gardens.
There will also be a bookshop with exciting new additions, as well as craft stands with high-quality botanical art. The popular Plant Crèche is for your purchases and then later collection by car.
Refreshments (including vegetarian options and Indian curries) and bar facilities will be available. There will also be a range of organic products for sale. The organisation asks that, to reduce waste, visitors bring their own bags and boxes.
All stands have cover and there will be a dedicated covered area for talks and workshops.
The event runs each day from 10am to 5pm. Entry costs €1. The venue has ample free car parking.
The Portugal Resident is proud to sponsor this event, alongside Sementes de Portugal. Organisers are the Câmara Municipal de Lagoa and the Mediterranean Gardening Association Portugal (MGAP).
