From August 27 to 31, the town is taking visitors on a unique journey into the past with the Medieval Days festival.
The town of Castro Marim is preparing to host the 26th edition of the Medieval Days, from August 27 to 31. Attractingthousands of visitors each year, it is the largest regional historical re-enactment event in the region, taking visitors onan unforgettable journey into the past.
This journey into the most captivating and enigmatic period in Portuguese history highlights Castro Marim as the most authentic setting for the Middle Ages, transforming the town’s streets and alleys with accuracy into a unique and memorable experience.

Kings and queens, knights in shining armour, jesters and minstrels, merchants, monks, ladies, nobles, and even demonic and magical creatures will invade the town of Castro Marim, which will once again feature special appearances from Guérande, a twin town in France, and Cortegana (Spain).
The Castle will once again be the centre of the event, hosting numerous arts and crafts, with live demonstrations of craftsmanship and leather and iron production, as well as grand spectacles such as medieval horse tournaments, a major attraction for visitors, one of which was commissioned by the National Republican Guard.
The banquets are another popular attraction of the event. Held in an exclusive space under the mysterious glow of torches, they feature a menu of the finest delicacies of the era, accompanied by live entertainment performances.
If you fancy being royalty for a night, you can also opt for a distinctive and exclusive experience at the royal table, with just 10 guests each evening, enjoying the splendour and ceremony of medieval courts. Reservations are required.
One of the most anticipated moments of this event, organised by the Castro Marim City Hall, is the parade, regarded as one of the best opportunities to immerse oneself in this universe of imagination and fantasy. It takes place on the first and last days, in the late afternoon, and is a showcase for all the entertainers, extras, and Castro Marim residents who participate annually in costume.
On a darker note, Castro Marim Castle also hosts exhibitions of torture and punishment instruments, as well as the First Headquarters of the Order of Christ.
Some 30 national and international animation groups from countries such as Italy and France will perform across various stages during the Medieval Days in Castro Marim, from the market to the Castle. They will showcase street theatre, street performers, jugglers, fire-breathers, bagpipers, tightrope walkers, swordsmen, medieval musicians, Arab-Oriental music and dance, sacred music in the Castle Church, a mass with choir, medieval dances, snake charmers, street parades, and falconry demonstrations.
There will also be children’s recreation areas and activities such as workshops, games, carousels, storytelling, and other forms of entertainment for the little ones.
