The Rotary Clubs of Almancil, Estoi Palace and Loulé are working together to collect foreign language books (not Portuguese) for the local public and school libraries.
Throughout the months of December and January, the books can be deposited at Apolónia Supermarket in Almancil, QM Garden Centre in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, the Casa do Povo in Estoi and the public library in Loulé.
With the increasing diversity of cultures and languages in the Algarve, there is an ongoing need for books in many languages, and especially for books in English and German. Books can be hardcover or paperback and include literature and general reference subjects.
Of particular interest are books that would be suitable for young readers, including comics. At the end of the collection period, the books will be donated to various libraries in the area.
Public school and municipal libraries are linked through a common database so books can be transferred among libraries when a reader requests a specific title.
