Duke of Edinburgh Cup

Qualifying for the ninth edition of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup will take place in the Algarve this year at the Oceânico Victoria Golf Course, Vilamoura.

The Portuguese qualifying leg of the tournament, which will see finals taking place in the UK in September, will be held on July 3 and has been organised by the Tivoli Hotels & Resorts group in conjunction with Grupo André Jordan.

Numerous national and international personalities are expected to take part in the qualifying round of the Duke of Edinburgh Cup which raises funds for the charitable organisation, International Golf for Youth.

During each qualifying event it is hoped that 75,000 US Dollars will be raised with 10,000 US Dollars being used to cover expenses of the World Finals held in England.  The rest of the money plus any surplus is donated to International Golf for Youth.

Two winning players from the qualifying round will move forward to the finals in England and they are to be honoured after the game during a gala dinner and awards ceremony to be held at the Hotel Tivoli Victoria in Vilamoura.

In the past nine years more than 3.5 million US Dollars have been raised by the event which allocates funds to aid young people to lead a better life, and especially to those in need or at risk.

Other world qualifying events taking place this year are being held in the Bahamas, England, South Africa, Spain, Scotland, Australia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada.
