European Trampoline Championships headline Portimão’s packed April sports calendar

Several sports events planned for this month in Portimão

Portimão is set for a busy month of sport this April, with the 30th European Trampoline Championships standing out as the main highlight of a wide-ranging programme.

Taking place at the Portimão Arena from April 8 to April 12, the competition will bring together around 700 gymnasts from 30 countries, including Portugal, which will field a team of 76 athletes.

Alongside this elite competition, the city will host a mix of sporting events aimed at both professionals and the wider community.

One of the key fixtures is the 20th Corrida da Liberdade (Freedom Race), a long-running and popular race which will bring together athletes, families and the wider community on April 25 for a day of sport that marks the historic date of Portugal’s Carnation Revolution.

Meanwhile, Praia da Rocha will host the Iberian Windsurf Foil Championship from April 10 to April 12, bringing top athletes in this Olympic discipline to the Algarve coast.

The Algarve International Circuit also has many motorsport events lined up, including the Porsche Cup Switzerland on April 11, the International GT Open from April 17 to April 19, and Caterham Motorsport Iberia between April 24 and April 26.

The programme also wants to get the local community moving, with several local sports complexes opening their doors for free activities.

At the Mexilhoeira Grande sports complex, residents can take part in hydro-gymnastics classes scheduled for 9am and 7pm on April 6, offering a low-impact workout option in a supervised setting (+351 282 248 571 | cdmexgrande@cm-portimao.pt).

Meanwhile, the sports complex in Alvor will host a guided fitness circuit between 10am and 11.30am on the same day (+351 272 248 570 | cdalvor@cm-portimao.pt).

Lastly, the Boavista sports complex will provide open access to its indoor sports hall from 11am to 6pm, allowing visitors to take part informally in activities such as futsal, basketball, volleyball and handball (pavilhaoboavista@cm-portimao.pt).

Information on further events can be found on the Viva Portimão website.
