Eclectic art at Loulé’s Studio 21

Opening this week in one of Loulé’s most historic buildings, an exhibition of watercolour paintings and charcoal drawings is expected to enthrall visitors.

Presented by two artists who share an ability to create precise and representational images, the exhibition features striking portraits, memorable landscapes and architectural studies. The diverse subject matter reflects the artists’ varied backgrounds and exceptional skills.

Barbara Dietrich Mountford is Russian by descent and before moving to the Algarve she lived in Brazil and North America. Developing her talents – producing ethnic portraits and lifelike floral images – she is a student of Gregor Cameron-MacDonald, whose paintings and drawings are also on display.

Greg has taught art in Portugal for the last six years, specialising in watercolour techniques, charcoal and pencil drawings. With a view to providing regular art classes at Studio 21, during the period of the exhibition he will be demonstrating his skills as a watercolourist. Potential students can meet him there to discuss their needs and work.

The exhibition, which celebrates the diversity of people and nature, is an inspiration. Originals and high-quality, limited edition prints are on sale.

Studio 21 is contained in a beautiful vaulted building alongside Loulé’s castle walls, in the old town at the rear of the museum, in Rua Martim Moniz 21.

The opening night was yesterday (November 7) and the exhibition opening times are from 10.30am to 4pm on Friday, November 8 and 15, Saturday, November 9 and 16 and Thursday November 14. Carolyn Kain
