News breaking today is that just over four weeks since Storm Kristin destroyed large parts of the centre of the country’s electrical supply infrastructure – leaving hundreds of thousands of families and consumers ‘in the dark’ – energy has been finally 100% re-established.
There should be no more households depending on paraffin lamps and generators as of this morning.
EDP executive president (EDP being part of the group that makes up E-REDES) has stressed: “We have recovered 100% of our clients, leaving just a few specific situations which will be resolved very quickly. But I think the worst has passed”.
Miguel Stillwell d’Andrade gave the news during a teleconference presenting EDP’s 2025 annual results. He explained that the country had been hit by “a series of devastating storms” which began at the beginning of January and went on into the early part of February, registering (in some cases) winds of over 200 km/ h, which “caused unprecedented physical damage to the country’s infrastructures”, including the electrical grids and company assets.
