EIA student sets worldwide standard

Students of Design & Technology (D&T) at the International School of the Algarve in Lagoa certainly seem to have the ‘X-Factor.’ Work produced for the examinations has been selected as exemplary coursework by the reputable international examination board Edexcel.

Last school year, a Year 11 D&T Graphic Products student, Sarah Goodchild, was awarded Grade A for the work produced for the GCSE examination. The work was selected as exemplary by the international examinations commission Edexcel for this academic year.

Three works presented by Sarah Goodchild around the theme X-Factor were placed on the internet by Edexcel to establish the global standard for A-Level Design & Technology graphic works for GCSE exams.

Sarah, 17, told the Algarve Resident: “I’m very proud. The school prepared me well and teacher Leona Robinson helped me a lot.”

Sarah is currently studying in London to enter the University of Fashion and develop a career as “hairdresser and makeup artist for film and television”.

D&T is a well established department at the International School of the Algarve, setting high standards of work which benefit many students, and have been recognised by the Edexcel examination board with remarks such as “it is the best work that we have ever seen”.

Other D&T students have also received recognition for their efforts, such as Thomas Drenth, who entered the best Dutch university of Architecture, and Holly Burgess, who has enrolled in the New York Fashion School with supermodel Tyra Banks.
