Floopy, Misty and Baby – makes three!

“Floopy would scoot towards me on his bum, eager to say hello” - Maya

As the Portuguese say, “it is so complicated” … Maya’s story, however, is not! A lady who works from home, as some modern-day careers demand, visited ARA’s dream-home-come-true for abandoned animals, ‘Cabanita’, to find a suitable companion for her little Maltese bichon ‘Misty’ and cat ‘Baby’.

“I couldn’t understand how such a sweet, gentle soul had gone nearly a year without adoption.” Luckily, 16 and a half-year-old Simão finally found his forever home. Three years later, after suffering with dementia, his health had declined and died. A huge hole.

Another visit to ARA… “Floopy would scoot towards me on his bum, eager to say hello.” Floopy, suffering with severe disabilities, never dimmed his enthusiasm for life. Now attempting to walk on all four legs and doing great in his new loving home.

“I know that younger, more able-bodied dogs have a better chance of adoption. But older or differently-abled dogs deserve just as much!” Maya beams. “Their love is endless and rewarding. They deserve to be cherished, pampered and loved for the rest of their precious lives.”

ARA’s ‘Legacy’ project is now running into its third year. People like Maya are not only bowled over by the work Animal Rescue Algarve do at their shelter, but also their ‘Pet Plan’ for those who care for their pet(s) whilst they are alive and enabled but need a backup when something like long-term illness occurs or even the tragic death of the owner.

Anita, APAA’s Ambassador for ARA’s ‘Legacy’, has seen so many happier people signing up for their pet(s) future. “The care and love that ARA gives to the animals is astonishing and, if anything happens to me, I know that my furry friends are going to be well cared for and re-homed. It’s the least we can do for the love they have given us.”
