The Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ) in Loulé is inviting all women and girls aged 16 and over to take part in a self-defence training session on Saturday, November 22.
The event will take place from 10am to noon at the Laura Ayres sports pavilion in Quarteira and will mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, a date that encourages reflection and action to promote equality and build safer, more respectful communities.
According to the CPCJ, it is important to raise awareness about the many different types of violence, particularly gender-based violence, which can often have dire consequences on families and the well-being of children.
“More than learning techniques, this is a moment to recognise boundaries and affirm the right to live safely,” the commission says in a statement.
Participation is free and anyone wishing to take part can attend on the day.
