Grandma’s sweets take centre stage in Alcoutim

“Feira dos Doces d’Avó” promises two days of sweet treats

The riverside town of Alcoutim is preparing for a sugar-filled Easter celebration as the popular Feira dos Doces d’Avó returns on April 3 and 4.

The event will take place from 2pm each day at the town’s riverside quay and is expected to bring together families, visitors and local producers for two days of traditional sweets and entertainment.

At the heart of the fair are the traditional desserts and regional products from the Algarve mountains, with local producers showcasing recipes passed down through generations.

Visitors can expect plenty of tasting opportunities, along with a relaxed festive atmosphere designed for both children and adults.

Beyond the sweets, the programme includes workshops for all ages, street entertainment, magic shows and live cooking demonstrations.

One of the highlights comes on Friday night at 9.30pm, when the traditional Baile da Pinha takes place – a lively dance event that is expected to draw big crowds and keep the festivities going into the evening.

Organised by the municipal council of Alcoutim, the Feira dos Doces d’Avó has become a key fixture in the region’s calendar, helping promote traditional sweets and supporting local producers from the Algarve’s inland areas.
