On December 1, the theme for the last in the 2012 series of themed supper evenings in aid of the spaying and neutering programme at the Donkey Sanctuary was “The Earliest Christmas Party Ever”.
More than 60 guests were initially warmed up with traditional mulled wine and Tommy the turkey was relieved to hear that the evening meal was a choice of chicken curry, beef goulash or hearty beef and vegetable casserole. Many guests brought along an assortment of sweets including trifles, mince pies, tiramisu, Dutch apple pie, lemon meringue pie and many others.
To familiar sounds of “Ho, Ho, Ho Merry Christmas”, Santa made an unexpected visit and helped with the Super Christmas Raffle, which raised over €335.
Prize sponsors gave amazing help and support by donating over 25 prizes for the raffle.
Santa produced a well earned gift for Verna and Philip Kinder from his Santa sack in appreciation for giving up their home throughout the year to make the themed evenings so enjoyable, and there was a small gift for the Cinderellas in the kitchen!
Organisers send “a huge thank you” to all the guests and to all Santa’s little helpers as “The Earliest Christmas Party Ever” raised a record total of €1,100. Mike Wakeford
