It’s panto time – oh yes it is!

The Algarveans theatre group is presenting Robinson Crusoe as their Pantomime extravaganza in February 2013. For this production, they are returning to the Lagos Cultural Centre.

Jenny Grainer from the Algarveans said: “Yes, I said Lagos and not Lagoa Auditorium, so before you all say, ‘Oh no it isn’t’, I said Lagos because in our 21st anniversary year we are returning to where so many of our early productions were staged.”

Many of you will know the story of Robinson Crusoe, but this is pantomime – so for starters there are more than two people in the cast and when Robinson Crusoe is shipwrecked, he’s not alone – there’s his fiancée, his prospective mother-in-law, a bunch of villainous pirates, restless natives and George the gorilla!

Robinson’s prospective mother-in-law runs the Spyglass in Bristol docks but has left it to chaperone her daughter Polly, who is engaged to Robinson. He is the captain on an adventurous sailing trip, seeking treasure. Disguised amongst the crew are some villainous pirates – Captain Cutlass and his hapless aides Flotsam and Jetsam. Of course there is a storm and what do you know – Robinson is shipwrecked again but this time he is not alone; there is a gorilla and no, it’s not his future mother in law. Will all end in disaster? This is Pantomime so before it ends, there is loads more with music, dance, thrills and spills with the island’s natives.

Look out for the next instalment of Robinson’s adventures with more about the characters.

Robinson Crusoe will be in Lagos on February 21, 22 and 23.
