Jack, Daisy and a Christmas mission

Cadela Carlota is open for visitors on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 12.30pm

Cadela Carlota, in Lagos, would like to thank the students and families of the primary schools in the Vila do Bispo School Group for their generous donations this season. These contributions directly support the daily care of our dogs, and we truly appreciate everyone who took part.

We would also like to acknowledge the teachers involved, especially teacher Ilda. She delivers animal-welfare sessions in local schools and volunteers with us throughout the year. Her work helps children understand responsible behaviour around animals and strengthens the link between the school community and our shelter.

For anyone who would like to meet the dogs they are helping, our team will be welcoming visitors this weekend.

Two dogs who particularly benefit from calm interaction are Jack and Daisy, a pair of mini Podengos. Jack, aged 10, is the more confident of the two and usually approaches first. Daisy, six, is far more cautious and tends to stay behind him until she feels safe. They rely on each other, and patient, gentle contact from visitors helps them progress at a steady pace.

The shelter is open for visitors on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 12.30pm. Even a short visit contributes to the socialisation work we are doing with Jack and Daisy and with other dogs who need extra confidence.

Our volunteers will also be at Foods & Co. in Portimão on Sunday and Monday, December 21 and 22, from 10am to 4pm. We will be collecting food, general supplies and financial donations. These collection days are an essential part of how we fund our work, particularly over the festive period when demand for help does not slow down.

If you are able to contribute — whether by donating food, visiting our stand or simply sharing our information — it directly supports the running of Cadela Carlota and the care we provide. Every contribution, large or small, makes a difference.

Thank you again to the Vila do Bispo School Group, the teachers, the families and everyone who continues to support our work. We hope to see some of you at the shelter or at Foods & Co. in the coming weeks.
