Lagoa Wine Show brings Portugal’s best nectars to Algarve

Wines from all over Portugal will be showcased in Lagoa

It’s almost time for one of southern Portugal’s most acclaimed wine events – the Lagoa Wine Show.

Fresh off being named ‘Event of the Year’ by the Portuguese Municipalities Association (AMPV), the event will take place from June 6 to 9 along the town’s ‘red’ Coronel Figueiredo street, transforming it into a vibrant stage for some of Portugal’s best wines.

With free entry, the show brings together wine lovers and foodies for four days of tastings, talks and live music.

Portugal’s most famous wine regions will be represented at the event, from the Algarve’s increasingly popular winemakers to the famous Douro and Alentejo regions, as well as Dão, Lisbon, Setúbal and Bairrada. The country’s distinct ‘Vinho Verde’ (Green Wine) will also be displayed at the show, alongside wines from international guest countries such as Moldova and Georgia.

Organisers have singled out some of the highlights of this year’s program:

June 6 (Friday)

  • 8pm – Showcooking with Chef Renato Bonfim, paired with Algarve wines
  • 9pm – Guided tasting of Moldovan Cognacs

June 7 (Saturday)

  • 5pm – Lagoa Wine Talks – A reflection on the present and future of the wine sector
  • 7pm – Wine tasting: Algarve Reds – Negra Mole grape variety
  • 8pm – Showcooking with Chef Nuno Bergonse, paired with white wines from Lagoa

June 8 (Sunday)

7pm – Wine tasting: Wines of Moura (Alentejo)

8pm – Showcooking with Chef Noélia Jerónimo, paired with Alentejo wines

June 9 (Monday)

There will also be a variety of musical performances throughout the event, spread across several stages. This year’s artists include Dino D’Santiago, Buba Espinho, Entre Aspas, Beatriz Felício, Sara Cruz and many others. Another highlight of the event is the ‘Fado à Janela’ initiative, which sees Fado singers perform from balconies or windows along the main street.

The Lagoa Wine Show is described by organisers as a “true celebration of the culture of wine” as well as the Algarve’s regional identity and Portugal’s national diversity.

The event will run from 7pm to midnight on all four days.
