The municipal council of Lagos has started 2026 by handing over two new patrol vehicles to the local police forces, aimed at strengthening day-to-day policing across the municipality.
Hugo Pereira, mayor of Lagos, led the ceremony which marked the delivery of the cars to representatives of the two security forces: Colonel Marco Henriques, commander of the GNR’s Faro Territorial Command, and Commissioner Luís Miranda, head of the PSP station in Lagos.

The move aims to provide officers better mobility and allow them to increase neighbourhood patrols, especially in areas that need a more regular police presence, the council says in a statement.
The new vehicles will also support programmes focused on more vulnerable residents, including children, young people and the elderly, through initiatives such as Escola Segura (Safe School), Idosos em Segurança (Senior Safety) and Comércio Seguro (Safe Commerce).
Approved by the local council last year, the purchase and delivery of the vehicles have now been put into practice.
The council adds it will cover all running costs, including insurance, road tax, maintenance and repairs.
