Man arrested after machete attack at Lagoa petrol station

53-year-old remanded in custody following violent assault

A 53-year-old man has been placed in pre-trial detention after allegedly attacking another man with a machete at a petrol station in Lagoa.

The arrest was carried out on February 28 by officers from the Lagoa GNR police force.

In a statement to the press, GNR police say the man allegedly assaulted a 29-year-old man using a machete, causing injuries to his forearms and one leg.

The victim was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for further care.

Police quickly launched follow-up enquiries, and the weapon allegedly used in the attack was seized, along with a personal defence spray that was found inside the suspect’s vehicle.

The man was brought before the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Portimão, where a judge ordered that he be held in preventive custody while the case proceeds.
