Many railway services still struggling to get fully on track

Northern, Beiras, Douro, Oeste and Coimbra lines all compromised

Traffic on the Northern, Beira Baixa, Beira Alta, Douro, Oeste and Coimbra Urban railway lines continues to be restricted or suspended on some sections today as a result of the bad weather in recent weeks, according to a statement by Comboios de Portugal (CP).

On the Northern line – which provides the rail link between Lisbon and Porto (the motorway of which is also cut off near Coimbra due to storm damage) – long-distance trains remain suspended, “with no forecast for resumption”.

According to CP, on the Northern Line, only regional services run between Entroncamento and Soure, Coimbra-Aveiro-Porto and between Tomar and Lisbon.

Traffic on the Beira Baixa Line remains suspended, with only regional trains running between Castelo Branco and Guarda, and between Entroncamento and Abrantes.

On the Beira Alta Line, the Intercidades service between Coimbra and Guarda is operating with different rolling stock than usual.

Traffic remains suspended on the Douro Line between Régua and Pocinho, on the Oeste Line and on the Coimbra Urban Lines.

On the Cascais Line, trains are running with timetable changes, and from today, there will be additional services during rush hour.

The Celta International Train is expected to run, but different rolling stock than usual may be used, and the Valença-Vigo-Valença route will be covered by a replacement bus service, says CP.

Sixteen people are recognised to have died in Portugal as a result of the Kristin, Leonardo and Marta storms, which caused untold damages throughout national territory. Two further people, missing from their home near the Mondego river, are also being actively sought as they appear to have been missing now for almost one week.
