Praia da Rocha is the venue for this weekend’s Portimão SurfSki Race of Champions.
From tomorrow (Saturday), around 250 of the best performers in the world will be competing for some 20,000 euros in prize money distributed among the top five male and three leading female competitors.
The showcase event is the ‘25km Downwind Ocean Race’ over a pre-determined course which may be ajusted according to prevailing weather conditions on the day. That first day feature will be followed by Sunday’s ‘800m Surf Life Saving Tournament’ originally evolved by lifeguards in South Africa and Australia. This competition takes place just off the beach and should provide the most entertainment for shore-based spectators.
