Meet Banjo and Bonita

Two young dogs seeking homes

Banjo and Bonita have recently turned three years old. Brother and sister from the same litter, they share a unique story and are now both looking for loving homes after a difficult start in life.

The pair arrived at the shelter in July 2025 following the sad passing of their owner, a homeless woman in Lagos who had cared for them since they were young. After her death, a kind individual took the dogs onto his farm, where they lived for over a year receiving consistent care and attention. When circumstances changed and he was no longer able to keep them, Banjo and Bonita were brought to the shelter so they could safely begin the search for permanent homes.

Although they share the same background, Banjo and Bonita are very much individuals, each with their own personality and needs.

Banjo is a large, young dog with plenty of energy and a real affection for people. He enjoys human company and quickly shows his softer side once he feels comfortable. He loves attention and physical closeness and would benefit from an active home, willing to continue his training and provide clear guidance and routine. With other dogs, he can be selective, but he is not aggressive — he simply needs calm introductions and structure.

Bonita is slightly more cautious when meeting new people but gains confidence steadily with patience and gentle encouragement. Once she feels secure, her affectionate and loyal nature becomes clear. She enjoys calm interaction and builds strong bonds with those who take the time to earn her trust.

Both dogs are accustomed to outdoor living and would be best suited to homes with secure outdoor space where they can feel relaxed and settled. Like many dogs who have experienced change, they thrive with consistency, kindness, and time to adjust to new surroundings.

While Banjo and Bonita grew up together, the priority now is finding the right match for each of them — homes where their individual personalities can continue to develop and where they can receive the attention they deserve.

At just three years old, both dogs have many happy years ahead and would make loyal, rewarding companions for the right families.

If you think you could offer Banjo or Bonita the stable home they are waiting for, please contact the shelter to learn more.
