Round five matches took place on January 19 at Alvor, having been postponed from December 8. The two Alvor sides played each other and the Diamonds came out on top with a 45-22 victory and a welcome ten points.
League leaders PDEF continued their good form with another victory, this time over Valverde by 42-29 and by eight points to two. The third game was between Albufeira and Amendoeira, with Albufeira taking the win by 54-20 and scoring eight points to two.
With six rounds now completed, PDF are out in front with 46 points, followed by Albufeira who move into second on 37 points.Valverde are on 32 then come Alvor Diamonds with 25 and the Aces have 16. Amendoeira are sixth on 12 points. The next round was at Amendoeira on Wednesday this week.
Saturday League
First to report on the game between Valverde Vikings and Albufeira Cats, postponed from January 8. This was played on January 19 and resulted in a narrow win for the Cats by 45-42, the points being divided five to the Cats and three to the Vikings. All games are now up to date.
Saturday, January 22 saw round 14 take place under grey skies and a cold blustery wind.
Albufeira Cats travelled to PDF Sinners and found the carpet to their liking, winning comfortably by 82-35 and eight points to nil. They extend their lead to six points at the top of the table and put further pressure on the chasing pack.
Over at Alvor the home Gladiators played stable mates the Harlequins and a close match saw Harlequins emerge victorious by 57- 42, thanks mainly to a big win on one of the three triples. The points were split four each.
The Greens were also at home at Alvor, playing the Valverde Vulcans. After a shaky start the Greens found their feet and ran out winners by 59-35 and the full eight points, to stay in touch with the Cats.
Tavira Tigers played neighbours Pedras Panthers and won another close game by 55-45 and by seven points to one. Meanwhile down the road at Amendoeira, the home Nuts beat visitors Alvor Amigos by 53-44 and six points to two. Nuts are having a very good spell recently with some good results.
The final match was over at PDF where the home Crusaders took on visitors Valverde Vikings, both teams enjoying a consistent and successful season. Vikings took the honours 55-46 and by six points to two.
Overall, Cats remain leaders with 95 points, just six ahead of the Greens who have 89. Vikings move into third on 73, Harlequins are in fourth with 68 points. Next come Crusaders with 60, Gladiators with 56 and Amigos with 55 points.
Pedras have 51 while Tigers have 42 in ninth. Nuts move up one to tenth with 32 points, while Sinners are on 26 just above Vulcans who remain on 25 points.
