‘Monday Munchers’ raise over €1,000 for Madrugada

The winning ticket for a beautiful quilt created by a group of ladies known as the ‘Monday Munchers’ took place at Carvoeiro Tennis Club’s annual prize-giving event on Sunday (December 9).

In addition to money raised through raffle ticket sales, the club made an additional donation bringing the total to €1300. The winning ticket was won by Nick Mackinlay  from Carvoeiro.

During the presentation by Wendy Hulme, on behalf of the club, and Allison Hohnbaum from the quilt making group, Madrugada President Alison Blair said: “This is a brilliant result and shows how groups of people can raise money for Madrugada, which depends entirely on charity and its shops to fund our work helping people affected by life-limiting illness.

“This money will be used to buy a top quality ripple mattress and other equipment desperately needed to make patients more comfortable.”

The women involved in creating the quilt were Allison Hohnbaum, Zena Whittaker, Kim Morse, Glenda Nichols, Annie Colley, Julie Saltys, Unni Johnsgaard, Sandra Aitken, Sue Speller and Lynn Smith.

Madrugada would like to appeal to any clubs, individuals, or groups out there who can create an event or provide artworks or other items that can be raffled, to contact the charity’s office.
