Murdered over a delivery bicycle in Costa da Caparica

Body of young father lies in street for hours before ambulance available to recover it

A young immigrant father was knifed to death in Costa da Caparica, Almada, on Tuesday night, after challenging a man who appeared to be trying to steal his delivery bicycle.

Mohammed Shamin Bhai, 31, was stabbed multiple times in the torso.

Correio da Manhã reports that “in spite of being hurt, he managed to avoid his bicycle being taken”.

But the price was much too high. Bhai collapsed to the ground, and witnesses (it is not clear from CM’s report whether witnesses were on the street, or alerted to the commotion in the street from their apartments) called the GNR.

Efforts at reanimation were performed at the scene, but there was nothing that could be done.

The father-of-one from Bangladesh, who lived in the area with his wife and baby daughter, was pronounced dead – and his body remained where it lay all through the night, “until an ambulance was available” to collect it, says CM.

The paper’s report explains that the ‘crime took place at 11.40pm. Mohammed Shamin Bhai realised a man was moving his bicycle” which was leaning against a wall in Rua do Juncal while he (Bhai) was delivering a food order in the neighbourhood”.

The paper adds that the victim worked two jobs. He served in a restaurant, and had a part-time job as a food courier.

Setúbal PJ are investigating, and will be searching now for Bhai’s attacker.
