In December, Loulé will be decorated with a number of traditional nativity scenes.
An exhibition of Christmas cribs from Maria Cavaco Silva’s personal collection will be held at the Convento de Santo António until January 5. This is a joint initiative between the Câmara of Loulé and the Museum of the Presidency of the Republic. The exhibition by Portugal’s First Lady is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and any donations will be going to Associação Existir, a local charity.
At the Castle of Loulé (tower and patio) there will be two further nativity scenes by artist Francisco José. They can be admired from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
From tomorrow (Saturday) at the Alcaidaria of Loulé Castle, the Algarve’s Traditional Christmas Crib (Presépio Tradicional Algarvio), decorated with wheat sheaves and oranges, will be on show, promoting an ancient religious tradition from the region.
In the parish of Querença, at the Pólo Museológico da Água, visitors will be able to admire a traditional nativity scene, symbolising Christmas and traditions from rural areas. It runs from December 10 to January 4 and is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12.30pm and in the afternoon from 2pm to 5.30pm.
