A NEW private hospital, which is due to open in Portimão on August 1, is the result of a partnership between the city’s branch of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia charity and the Hospital Particular do Algarve.
Dr João Amado, the new hospital’s clinical director, said: “São Camilo hospital will complement and improve the existing medical services at the Parque de Saúde da Misericórdia de Portimão.”
The new facility, near the city centre, is part of the refurbishment of the old district hospital, which has been carried out by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in recent years.
São Camilo hospital, which will be managed by the private company Grupo Hospital Particular do Algarve, will include a general consultations service with GPs and specialist doctors as well as offering complementary cardiology and rehabilitation exams and imaging units.
There will also be beds for 23 in-patients and three operating theatres for general orthopaedic, ear, nose and throat surgeries.
According to João Amado, these will be just a few of the specialities that will be available, with plans in hand to increase the services offered in the future.
Experience
The new hospital will be working closely with insurance companies, the Algarve health service and the region’s Câmaras.
According to João Amado, the facility will benefit from 12 years of experience from one of the largest private hospital groups in the region.
A spokesman for the Grupo Hospital Particular told The Resident: “São Camilo hospital will be open to outpatients between 8am and 8pm each day. In total there will be 60 members of staff, including doctors, nurses and assistants.”
São Camilo hospital is located on Avenida São João de Deus, Parque de Saúde da Misericórdia de Portimão, between Barlavento hospital and the Continente shopping centre.
