Times are changing for the tourism industry in the Algarve and pre-empting a bleak 2011, those responsible for marketing the region both nationally and internationally are taking early steps to ensure the region survives the crisis.
A concerted marketing drive by the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) and the Regional Tourism Board (ERTA), entitled Algarve – Europe’s Most Famous Secret, is inviting tourists of various nationalities to get to know the Algarve, its traditions, culture, history, nature and people.
Since spring this year the two tourism entities have been promoting the image of the region both in the country and abroad, placing special focus on the Algarve’s undiscovered delights, but not dismissing the golf, sun and beach successful formula.
However, as a final boost to the campaign, a special presentation is being planned for November 8 at the London World Travel Market, considered to be the largest tourism fair in the world.
Next year, 30-second video spots in several languages will be broadcast on major television channels in selected markets. Videos will be in Portuguese, English, German, Dutch, Spanish and Russian.
The latest chosen image for the Algarve will also be incorporated into the ATA/ERTA website www.visitalgarve.pt, where the region’s ‘Top Secrets’ will be divulged. This boost for the region’s tourism industry represents an investment of around 300,000 Euros by ATA and ERTA.
