With music by Jimmy Roberts and a book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, this seemingly light-hearted musical will delight audiences with its many levels.
What starts as surface-level comedy soon deepens to a more profound message. This is a progression of independent sketches which follow an arc – finding, living with, and losing love – in a variety of short, mostly hilarious but occasionally thoughtful vignettes.
Each one documents an aspect of dating, love, marriage, parenthood and divorce in the modern age. The show’s tagline is well deserved: “Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws but were afraid to admit!”

Director Paul Legault, new to The Algarveans, has chosen nine talented members of the group to play some 70 different characters. Legault is well acquainted with the show, having performed the musical score numerous times in his native Canada. He is keen to have live musicians on stage for the production as, in his view, their performance is an essential component of the show. An exciting new art form for The Algarveans, with catchy humorous songs, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is sure to be a hit with audiences.
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” is playing at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, Lagoa on March 12, 13 and 14 at 7.30pm. Tickets at €15 will soon be available from Bol.pt or in person at Auditório Carlos do Carmo and at Município de Lagoa – Balcão Único. Tickets will also be available at Worten and FNAC shops or online websites.
